Sometimes when you are running a web site you need to make decisions that some people won't understand.
I've just added a "Installation" Yes/No field to the WSS FAQ sites for the "Articles - 2007 Products" list and have also added the equivalent View.
I don't think that is going to be a problem for anyone.
But then I had to make the decision as to what I would list in Installation and now there could be some people muttering.
I decided to include ONLY installation of the RTM product. No papers on Upgrading from Beta versions will be shown if you select the Installation View. (They will however still be included in the List and will be accessible for instance via a Search or via a less-specific View).
My reasons for doing this were quite selfish.
For starters it was going to be a lot of work finding all the Upgrade papers I'd already added and clicking on the Installation check-box.
Then there'd be the question of where do I stop. Do I include only upgrading from Beta2 T¤R to RTM or do I also have Beta2 to Beta2TR ?
But finally - and the real reason I did it this way - if I restrict myself to RTM, these papers will continue to be relevant long after all beta users have moved to RTM from their Beta versions. (So no items listed that are irrelevant for most people and anyway what would be the cut-off date for deciding that people now no longer needed TR to RTM articles here?)
